Help for residents
Linking your car.
Volty reads your car’s own charging data so it can bill you accurately. Here is what that connection is, and how to undo it.
Connecting
- What am I actually signing into?
- Your car manufacturer’s account, through Enode, the vehicle API Volty uses. You approve read access to vehicle data and location, and the approval happens on the manufacturer’s own sign-in page.
- What can Volty see?
- Whether the car is plugged in and charging, its battery level, and where it is. That is what is needed to know a billable session started and how much energy went in.
- Can Volty drive, unlock or control my car?
- No. The access granted is read only. Volty cannot start or stop a charge, unlock the car or send it commands.
- Can I link more than one car?
- Yes. Link as many as you like and each will bill sessions to your account.
Problems and disconnecting
- My car will not connect.
- Make sure connected services are active on the car and that you can see live battery data in your manufacturer app. If you cannot see it there, Volty cannot see it either.
- The app says my car has not reported in a while.
- Cars go quiet in basements and when they sleep. It usually resolves once the car reconnects. If a session was affected, it is reconstructed from the reports either side of the gap, and the worst case is that it is not billed at all.
- How do I disconnect?
- Remove the car in the Volty app, and revoke Volty’s access from your manufacturer account if you want to be thorough. Sessions already charged stay on your record.
