Does Volty work with my car?
If your car has a manufacturer app that shows you the battery level, it is very likely supported. That connection is what lets Volty bill you accurately without any hardware.
How compatibility is decided
Volty connects to your car through Enode, a vehicle API that maintains the integrations with manufacturer accounts. Support follows what Enode supports, which covers most major electric vehicle brands sold in Australia — including Tesla, BYD, Polestar, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Volvo, MG, Nissan and Ford.
What matters is not the badge but the connection: your car needs to be enrolled in its manufacturer’s connected services, with an account you can sign into, and reporting its own charge state. If your manufacturer app shows a live battery percentage, Volty can read the same thing.
The app tells you during setup. If your car cannot be linked, you will know in the first minute rather than after a failed session.
If your car is not supported
- My brand is listed but my model will not connect.
- Check that connected services are active on the car itself and that you can see live data in the manufacturer app. Older model years sometimes need the subscription re-enabled, and some brands require the car to be claimed to your account before it will report.
- Can I still charge if my car cannot be linked?
- Not through Volty, because there would be no way to meter or bill the session. Talk to your building about how they want to handle it.
- Do plug-in hybrids work?
- Often, yes, where the manufacturer reports charge state the same way. The app will tell you when you try to link it.
- Will my car be supported later?
- Coverage grows as manufacturers open up their connected platforms. If yours will not link today, it is worth checking again after a manufacturer app update.
